BIOGRAPHY

Billy Rapaport, a three-time Emmy award winner, developed a life-long passion for entertainment after interviewing John Belushi backstage at Saturday Night Live and working on network productions of ABC-TV’s The Superstars and Battle of the Network Stars.

While earning his degree in broadcasting and film at Boston University, Rapaport worked on Monday Night Football and the NBA on CBS, then joined Burson-Marsteller where he produced the television coverage of the Torch Relay for the Los Angeles summer Olympics. The material that he directed is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Television and Radio in New York City.

Rapaport spent his early career as a producer working at SMTI, an agency that joined Clear Channel Entertainment. He created their commercial division and directed dozens of national spots. In addition, Rapaport oversaw production of all the agency’s television programs and was writer/producer for the Emmy-nominated Breeders’ Cup film series on NBC.

Rapaport continues to have a diverse and award-winning career as an independent producer, director and content creator for projects ranging from NBC’s Olympic coverage to hit Broadway musicals.

 
 

Notable achievements include work as a producer on NBC’s Emmy Award winning coverage from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. Rapaport was the producer of Golf Therapy, an NBC comedy special, a producer for NBC’s figure skating, horse racing and gymnastics coverage, the director on The Instant Beauty Pageant, pilot for E! and Assistant Director of The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. He also served as Executive Producer/Director on G.A.M.E., a television pilot for Warner Bros.

Rapaport’s directing credits also include The World’s Funniest Commercials on TBS and The Tom Green Show on AXS TV. He has also directed New York stage productions of Lanford Wilson’s Burn This and Sam Shepard’s Simpatico.

AWARD-WINNING WORK

In addition to Rapaport’s Emmy awards for his work on the Olympics, he also earned an Emmy and the prestigious Peabody Award for his work as a producer on ESPN’s Sports Century: The Fifty Greatest Athletes series.
